How to convert a screenshot to PDF

Updated: 2026-11-07

A screenshot is the fastest way to capture what is on a screen, but it is only an image file. Turning it into a PDF takes one step, and a couple of choices decide whether the text inside it stays readable on a phone, in an email attachment or on paper.

Take the screenshot at the right size

A screenshot captures a fixed grid of pixels at whatever size the display was using at that moment. On a high-density display the same window is captured with more pixels, which is why a capture from a laptop often looks sharper than one from an older monitor.

Capture only the part of the screen you need. A cropped screenshot avoids shrinking a large canvas down into a page later, and it keeps the image small enough to convert quickly.

Add the screenshot to the queue

Paste the image straight from the clipboard, drop the file onto the page, or choose it with the file picker. Up to 100 PNG images can be queued in one conversion, and each one becomes exactly one page of the result.

The queue order is the page order. Drag a row, use the move buttons, or sort by name; adding another screenshot later never reshuffles the pages you already arranged.

Keep the text sharp

Leave Image quality at Original quality. In that mode the PNG is embedded without a JPEG step and without downscaling, so small lettering keeps the clean edges it had in the capture.

Choose Fit the whole image unless the page has to be completely covered: crop to fill scales the screenshot up to the page area and can soften text that was sharp. The preview shows the result before you convert, and the guide to blurry text explains where blur actually comes from.

Choose the page and save

A4 or US Letter gives the screenshot a standard sheet with margins around it. Original image size makes the page the size of the screenshot itself, which is useful when the capture should keep its exact proportions.

Set a file name, press Create PDF, and the document downloads immediately. If several screenshots should stay separate files, choose a separate PDF for each image and the set arrives as one ZIP.

Questions about this guide

Can I paste a screenshot instead of saving it first?

Yes. Copy the screenshot and paste it into the page: PNG images from the clipboard join the queue without a file ever being saved to disk.

Should a screenshot use original size or a paper size?

Original image size keeps the capture at its exact proportions. A4 or US Letter places it on a standard sheet with margins, which is what you want when the PDF will be printed or sent on as a document.

Why does the screenshot look fuzzy in the PDF?

Usually because the capture is smaller than the page area and gets scaled up. Capture a larger region or at a higher display scale, and keep Original quality with Fit the whole image.
